"Rituals of Memory" Summary
In her essay "Rituals of Memory," Kimberly M. Blaeser argues that our relationships to family and community shape who we are. Blaeser gives readers a metaphor comparing those relationships to her friend's curly, tangled hair. She supports her claim with her experience on Memorial Day honoring fallen soldiers and warriors with the legionnaires. She also refers to her two cultures, German Catholic and Native American, and how they define her.
Summary Reflection
1. List one thing you've learned from writing this paper that you can apply to other writing assignments. What will that look like?
I learned about her experience. I also learned to put things in the same order as the story. Next time, I can talk about things in order.
2. Identify a specific revision you were asked to make and explain why (this can be at any stage of the writing process). How did you revise? What did you learn?
I had to fix some of my punctuation errors. I learned to remember the punctuation.
3. What are the conventions of a summary and how did you meet those in his assignment?
A summary tells the main points of a book and is short. That's what I did in my paragraph.
4. Given more time to work on this assignment, how would you improve it?
I would double check my punctuation and grammar.
5. What is one thing you're proud of in this paper?
I am proud that I finished the paper on time.
